Mark your calendars: October 8, 2005 marks the date of Japan Dolphin Day: End The Taiji Dolphin Slaughter. Help Stop the Largest and Cruelest Slaughter of Dolphins in the World.

" When I am going to kill dolphins, they shed tears and close their eyes. How is it possible for me to kill animals, that shed tears and close their eyes at the moment they are killed?"
source: Izumi Ishii, ex-dolphin hunter, now dolphin advocate
In the Japanese fishing village of Taiji, fishermen round up and slaughter hundreds and even thousands of dolphins each year. After driving pods of dolphins into shallow coves, the fishermen kill the dolphins, slashing their throats with knives or stabbing them with spears. Thrashing about, the dolphins take as long as six minutes to die. The water turns red with their blood and the air fills with their screams. This brutal massacre; the largest scale dolphin kill in the world; goes on for six months of every year. Even more shocking, the captive dolphin industry is an accomplice to the kill.
Join us on Saturday, October 8, 2005 at 12:00 noon, as we protest this brutal practice. We will start with a peaceful demonstration in front of the Japanese Embassy, 77 King Street West (TD Centre) in downtown Toronto, with a march following. Please bring a friend, remember, there is power in numbers. Send a powerful message to Japan: End The Taiji Dolphin Slaughter NOW!!!
